God’s perfect will

We continue our sermon series entitled ‘The Perfectionist’. Preaching from Alan Cole.
This virtual service will also include Communion.

Sermon Notes

Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and prove what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.

Romans 12:2

1) The preconditions of discovering God’s perfect will (verses 1 & 2). God has plans for each of our lives. To discover them we need to be willing to listen to God and then to obey what He tells us. We also need to be willing to serve in whatever role He has for us and to develop a new series of priorities in our lives.

2) The nature of God’s perfect will. (verse 2). .It is described as good – God wants the best for all of us, It is also pleasing to God and fits into his plans for us, the church and the world.

3)  The practical outworking of God’s perfect will (verses 3-18)

(a) God’s will is that we serve as part of a community (verses 3-5). Within the church there are many opportunities for us to serve and encourage one another.

(b)  God’s will is that we serve according to the talents that we have and the spiritual gifts He has given us (verses 6-8).

(c) God’s will is that we love another and not harbour grudges against people or seek revenge when they hurt us.(verses 9-18) This can only be accomplished with the power of the Holy Spirit (the transforming of the mind from verse 2)
